Factors necessary for maximum growth of Clostridium bifermentans.

چکیده
The nutritional requirements of some members of the genus Clostridium are, as yet, incompletely known. Not only is maximum growth in some species, such as Clostridium parabotulinum (Elberg and Meyer, 1939), dependent upon some unidentified substance, but in others, such as Clostridium tetani (Mueller and Miller, 1948) and Clostridium perfringens (Adams, Hendee, and Pappenheimer, 1947), high yields of toxin or exocellular enzymes are produced only in the presence of unknown substances, although luxuriant growth can be obtained in their absence. The results of the present study indicate that in addition to biotin, nicotinic acid, pantothenic acid, and pyridoxamine, some unidentified material is necessary for the maximum growth of CJostridium bifermentans in a synthetic medium.

Classification of medically important clostridia using restriction endonuclease site differences of PCR-amplified 16S rDNA.
Restriction maps were constructed of enzymically amplified 16S rRNA genes (rDNA) isolated from eight Clostridium species. Using maximum parsimony, a dendrogram was constructed from these and published 16S rRNA sequence data. Two distinct clusters were identified: cluster I contained C. difficile, C. sordelli, and C. bifermentans, and showed 30 of 35 restriction sites in common; cluster II conta...
متن کاملPhysiological and nutritional factors affecting synthesis of extracellular metalloproteases by Clostridium bifermentans NCTC 2914.
Extracellular protease production by Clostridium bifermentans NCTC 2914 occurred throughout the growth phase in batch culture. In both glucose-excess and -limited chemostats, protease formation was inversely related to the dilution rate, over the range D = 0.03 to 0.70 h-1. At high dilution rates (D greater than 0.25 h-1), protease activities were greatest under excess glucose conditions. Sodiu...
متن کاملEmpyema caused by Clostridium bifermentans: A case report
A case of pneumonia with associated empyema caused by Clostridium bifermentans is described. C bifermentans is an anaerobic, spore-forming, Gram-positive bacillus. This organism is infrequently reported as a cause of infection in humans, and older publications tended to regard it as nonpathogenic. However, in more recent reports, C bifermentans has been documented as a cause of septic arthritis...
متن کاملFatal Spontaneous Clostridium bifermentans Necrotizing Endometritis: A Case Report and Literature Review of the Pathogen
Clostridium bifermentans is a rare pathogen in humans. A fatal case of fulminant endometritis with toxic shock and capillary leak secondary to C bifermentans infection in a young woman is described, and this is compared to all 13 previously described cases of C bifermentans infection.
متن کاملProduction of Clostridium bifermentans Spores as Inoculum for Bioremediation of Nitroaromatic Contaminants.
Spores of Clostridium bifermentans KMR-1 were produced for use as a microbial inoculum for bioremediation and were preserved in both liquid and dry forms. All spore formulations showed good viability and ability to biodegrade the target compound, 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), after 4 months of storage. For low-cost bulk spore production, several medium compositions, based on soy peptone, corn st...
